EDCI 8330 - History of Urbanization and Its Impact on Schooling


Focuses on a historical contextualization of urban developments and their impacts on schools. It examines the American educational system as it relates to politics, economic, cultural practices and public policies. The course explores the shift in the American educational system from rural to urban schools, and it investigates how urbanization shaped schools and created the framework for current issues in urban schools. The course concludes with an analysis of urbanization in Charlotte, North Carolina and how Charlotte schools have been impacted.
