ECEI 4111 - Foundations of Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education An introduction to early intervention (EI; birth to age 3) and early childhood special education (ECSE; ages 3-5 years), including a historical context for the development of EI/ECSE, an examination of similarities and distinctions between these separate entities, and family rights/advocacy for services and supports. Candidates in this course will learn pertinent legislation for EI/ECSE and the process of identification, eligibility, and transition for children and families to participate in these programs. Additionally, candidates will learn models of EI/ECSE service delivery (e.g., teaming models, various classroom settings) and the professional roles/responsibilities associated with EI/ECSE programs and services. A corresponding clinical (ECEI 2412 ) will be required.
Credit Hours: (3) Restriction(s): Must be enrolled in one of the following Fields of Study (Major, Minor, or Concentration): Early Childhood Inclusive Education and Intervention. Students must complete this course with C or better to proceed in their program. Prerequisite(s): ECEI 2111 , ECEI 2113 , ECEI 2114 Corequisite(s): ECEI 2412 , ECEI 3112 (majors only), ECEI 3210
