Teacher Licensure in Mathematics
Students preparing for licensure to teach mathematics in secondary school (grades 9-12) must Major in Mathematics. They may select either the B.A. in Mathematics or the B.S. in Mathematics degree track, but their coursework must include:

Before the end of their Sophomore year, students should complete MDSK 2100 and obtain an application for formal admission to the teacher education program in the Department of Middle, Secondary, and K-12 Education . Once they are approved for the Teacher Education program, students are enrolled in the Minor in Secondary Education. The minor requires 4 additional courses from the College of Education and one semester of student teaching. Detailed information is available in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics office. Licensure applications are the responsibility of the student and the Office of Teacher Education Advising, Licensure, and Recruitment (TEALR) in the College of Education.
