A Major in English leading to the B.A. degree consists of 36 credit hours of coursework at the 1000-level or above. Students may also elect an optional concentration from one of four areas:

Admission Requirements

Declaration of Major: Change of Major forms accepted year-round. Students must make an advising appointment during SOAR and when declaring the major.
Degree Requirements
Students in the major must complete a minimum of 36 credit hours in English courses, including 12 credit hours at the 4000-level. No more than 12 credit hours in ENGL at the 1000- or 2000-level may be counted toward the major, with no more than 6 credit hours at the 1000-level. Of the 36 required credit hours, at least 3 credit hours must be in a departmentally designated diversity course. English majors not electing a specific concentration must complete the following:
General Education Courses (31-32 credit hours)
For details on required courses, refer to the General Education Program . Total hours to satisfy General Education Requirements may vary as some general education requirements may be double-counted in the major with departmental approval. Please see your advisor for information.
Foundation Course (3 credit hours)
Major Courses (36 credit hours)
At a minimum, majors must complete 36 credit hours in English, including 12 credit hours at the 4000-level. No more than 12 credit hours in ENGL at the 2000-level may be counted toward the major. Select 15 additional credit hours in ENGL courses at the 1000- or 2000-level or above, with no more than 6 credit hours at the 1000-level.

Degree Total = 120 Credit Hours
Progression Requirements
A GPA of 2.0 or above in all English courses taken is required for graduation.
