Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Graduate Academic Programs (A-Z)

The Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Science (M.S.) in Health Informatics and Analytics (HIA) dual degree program allows students to develop as public health practitioners who are grounded in data science and health analytics. Enrolled students earn both a MPH  and a M.S. in Health Informatics and Analytics (HIA)  degree typically with a concentration in Health Services Outcomes.

Typically for the MPH, students complete 5 core courses (15 credit hours), an applied learning experience, or internship (3 credit hours), as well as 6 required courses related to one of the MPH concentrations (18 credit hours): Community Health Practice, Health Policy, Physical Activity and Nutrition, or Epidemiology.

For the M.S. in HIA, students complete 2 foundational courses (6 credit hours), 4 core courses (12 credit hours), 3 selective courses (9 credit hours), 2 restricted elective courses (6 credit hours), and a culminating experience (3 credit hours).

For students completing the MPH with a concentration in Epidemiology, 12 credit hours are shared in the dual degree program. These students earn the dual degree in 60, instead of 81, credit hours. Students enrolled in other MPH concentrations complete the dual degree in 63 credit hours, with 9 shared credit hours.

Admission Requirements

Students must apply to each program separately and be admitted to both programs by the published census date of the third semester (including Summer). No admission requirements established by the Graduate School or by either individual program may be waived. See Public Health, MPH  and Health Informatics and Analytics, M.S . sections of this catalog for individual program admission requirements.

Dual Degree Requirements

Dual degree students must satisfy all individual degree requirements (Public Health, MPH  and Health Informatics and Analytics, M.S. ) with the added benefit of sharing a limited number of credits between the two programs. See the Shared Courses section below for permissible course sharing.
