PHIL 3220 - Aesthetics Discussion and analysis of major theories of art ranging from historical figures (Plato, Aristotle, Hume, Kant, Nietzsche, and Dewey) to contemporary philosophers (Sontag, Danto, Kristeva, and Ranciere). Emphasis will be on the development of aesthetics in relation to the visual and performing arts, new media, and philosophy, but also in response to social-political-cultural issues, such as feminism, racism, and the like.
