INTL 3118 - Thinking Globally, Reading Deeply: Earth Matters Provides a close reading of a contemporary work of fiction to generate inquiry into matters of environmental humanities. Students are encouraged to investigate further those issues that they find intriguing. The reading deals with issues ranging from migration and making a living, to the human connection with the natural environment. Often, in Global Studies, the focus is on globalization in terms of the economy or political relationships. This course shifts that focus to also consider what is at stake for humans living on a planet with dwindling natural resources, rising temperatures, and sea levels.
