ARTA 1502 - Global Arts/Humanities: Art in a Global Context

All Global Theme courses explore the central, unifying question of what it means to be a citizen of the world. Through the study of one or more different peoples, societies or cultures across the globe, students will be able to better understand themselves as part of a complex, interconnected world. ARTA 1502 provides an interdisciplinary introduction to the visual arts in a global context with analysis of visual culture in a variety of media and genres from different historical periods and geographic locations. This course examines the function, meaning, and politics of individual works of art and art movements. It also addresses the role of art as a site for the articulation of value systems, including those of gender, class, and race. May not be taken for credit and for a grade if credit has been received for LBST 1105 .
