The Department of Religious Studies offers an Honors Program that allows students to deepen their consideration of approaches to the study of religion and to explore a well-articulated question in a written thesis. The thesis research must be presented orally to the faculty as a whole. Additionally, students must demonstrate, in writing, evidence of a concentration in their course of study, to the satisfaction of the Religious Studies Honors Committee.

Certification Requirements
To be awarded honors in Religious Studies, candidates must:
- Write an honors thesis of A grade quality, as judged by their thesis director
- Complete RELS 4790 and RELS 4791 with grades of A
- Achieve a minimum GPA of 3.25 in RELS courses
- Achieve a minimum overall GPA of 3.0
- Complete all requirements of the B.A. in Religious Studies degree
- Complete the Application to Candidacy process for graduating with honors, as directed by the Honors College
The honors notation will appear on a student’s official transcript.
