DANC 2226 - Vernacular Jazz Dance


Traces the development of jazz dance from folk beginnings to the present. Explores vernacular jazz dance based in African/African-American roots as well as the contemporary or applied aspects of jazz dance.  Students will examine the role that vernacular dance and music play in the creation of jazz dance, as well as exploring European influence on African and Latin-based diasporic dances.  Includes improvisation, center work, and performance techniques.

Credit Hours: (2)
Repeatability: May be repeated for credit.
