ANTH 5630 - Spatial Analysis and Anthropology An introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Analysis, and mapping from an explicitly anthropological perspective. Integrating perspectives from Cultural Ecology and Settlement Ecology this course investigates the cultural dimensions of spatial information, while relying on data from Latin America. This course provides a foundation for a future second course offering focused on advanced primary analysis through GIS, such as remote sensing, with intensive AI applications. Students will review numerous spatial theories underlying anthropology and GIS analysis in anthropology, as well as surveying the tools and themes used to collect, describe, model, and analyze data.
