Economics, M.S. (Charlotte), and Money and Banking, M.S. (NCCU, Taiwan), Dual Degree

The Belk College of Business, in partnership with the National Chengchi University (NCCU) in Taipei City, Taiwan, offers a dual degree program.  Students in this program earn the M.S. Economics from UNC Charlotte and  one of the following from NCCU: Finance, International Business, Money and Banking, or Technology, Innovation & Intellectual Property Management.  Students study for one year at UNC Charlotte.

The M.S. in Economics offers theoretical training and applied coursework.  Students gain strong quantitative skills in econometrics and applied economics with an emphasis in economic analysis, data analytics, and advanced quantitative methods.

Admission Requirements


Students must meet the admissions criteria for both the M.S. in Economics at UNC Charlotte and the Master’s program at NCCU.

Degree Requirements


NCCU students will complete one year of study at National Chengchi University.  Up to 9 credit hours will transfer from NCCU to UNC Charlotte to satisfy UNC Charlotte degree requirements.

NCCU students will take a combination of the following core and concentration courses at UNC Charlotte:

NCCU students select one of the following Concentrations:

Applied Economic Analysis Concentration


The Concentration in Applied Economic Analysis is designed for students who wish to pursue a specialized course of study.  This concentration can be completed in one full year of study if the student chooses the thesis option.

Students in this concentration must complete the core curriculum and the research project or thesis for the M.S. in Economics.  In addition, they must complete 12 credit hours of elective courses chosen from among 5000 level and higher ECON courses, 6000 level and higher FINN courses, or courses approved by the program director.

NCCU Courses


Up to nine credit hours from the following courses offered by the program at NCCU can be used to replace corresponding courses offered by the program at UNC Charlotte:

  • Financial Econometrics
  • Investment Analysis
  • Financial Management
  • Financial Time Series Analysis
  • Econometrics (II)
  • Financial Derivatives
  • Macroeconomic Theory (I)
  • Microeconomic Theory (I)
  • Business Forecasting
  • Bond Analysis
  • Financial Management Theory and Policy

Credit for the above mentioned courses can be transferred to UNC Charlotte if an equivalent grade of B or better is earned. Other courses may be considered for transfer on case-by-case basis, and with permission from the UNC Charlotte Program.

Research Project or Thesis


NCCU students must select one research option:
