Department of Public Health and Health Administration


The Department of Public Health and Health Administration (PHHA) is committed to advancing health by fostering innovative teaching and learning, generating evidence-based research, and engaging communities in meaningful ways. PHHA’s mission is to prepare students and scholars to lead impactful public health initiatives, expand access to quality care, and contribute to healthier outcomes for populations.

The department’s baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degree programs in public health are accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and a graduate program in health administration is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). The department is a member of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), the American Public Health Association (APHA), and the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). 

At the undergraduate level, the department offers the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH), the Bachelor of Science (B.S) in Health Systems Management, a Minor in Public Health, early entry to the Master of Public Health (MPH) and the Master of Health Administration (MHA), and participates in an interdisciplinary honors program that is available to students in the residential baccalaureate programs (BSPH and BS-HSMT).

At the graduate level, the department offers the Master of Public Health (MPH) and the Master of Health Administration (MHA) degrees and two doctoral degrees (Ph.D.): one in Public Health Sciences with a concentration in Behavioral Science and one in Epidemiology.  

Additionally, the department offers the MPH as a dual degree in combination with the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Anthropology or the Master of Science (M.S.) in Health Informatics and Analytics, and the MHA in combination with the Master of Business Administration (MBA) or the M.S. in Health Informatics and Analytics.
