Professional Studies, IT Operations Concentration, B.S.


The concentration in IT Operations will equip Professional Studies majors with the problem-solving skills needed to effectively provide front-line IT support in a business environment. Students will build knowledge in IT concepts, practice network configuration and troubleshooting techniques, gain hands-on experience with Windows and Linux, and explore cybersecurity threats and system-hardening tactics.

All program-level Admission and Progression Requirements are in addition to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Admissions Requirements .

Admission Requirements


Transfers

  • The Professional Studies degree is available to transfer students and returning degree-seeking UNC Charlotte undergraduate students.
  • Prospective students interested in the Professional Studies degree should have at least 24 transferable credit hours. A maximum of 64 credit hours from two-year institutions is allowed. See Academic Policy for details. 

In addition to the online application and required fee, official transcripts from every college attended, and an official high school transcript, the following requirements apply: 

  • Applicants must present an overall 2.0 grade point average according to calculations performed by the Undergraduate Admissions office.
  • Internationally‐educated students must have their foreign credentials translated and evaluated by an accredited credential evaluation service. Transfer applicants must have a “course by course report” completed by the service, and they must present the equivalent of a high school diploma in addition to college‐transferable coursework. 
  • Applicants must be in good standing and eligible to return to the last institution attended.

Currently Enrolled Students

  • Declaration of Major: Students must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA and have completed at least 24 earned credit hours. The final grades of the prerequisite courses must be posted on their transcript.
  • Submit the Professional Studies Major Application to request the Professional Studies major.

Major Core Courses (21 credit hours)


Professional Studies Courses (12 credit hours)


Professional Studies Core (9 credit hours)

Nine credit hours must be completed across any courses within the Professional Studies core. Students are not restricted to one competency series. No more than 6 credit hours of special topics (PROS 3000 ) may be used to satisfy this requirement and may not be double counted as an elective.

Capstone Course (3 credit hours)


IT Operations Concentration Courses (12 credit hours)


Complete twelve credit hours in the required coursework with a grade of C or above.

Unrestricted Elective Courses, Double Major and/or Minor to Complete Requirements for Graduation


Students must earn a minimum of 120 credit hours to graduate. This requirement can be fulfilled through a combination of elective courses, a minor, or a double major. The 120-credit minimum must be satisfied regardless of the specific academic path chosen (e.g., a minor combined with electives).

Progression Requirements


A GPA of 2.0 in the major is required for graduation, as well as grades of C or above in all courses.
